The Encode (BE489) and Encode Plus (BE499) are WiFi-native with built-in alarms. No hub needed. The Sense (BE479) runs Bluetooth and needs the Schlage Sense WiFi Adapter if you want remote access. The older Connect (BE468/469) is Z-Wave only and pairs with SmartThings, Ring Alarm, or similar hubs. We also see the Touchscreen Deadbolt (BE375) and Keypad Lever (FE575/595) on interior garage and pool-house doors.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha: Schlage’s smart deadbolts require a 2-1/8 inch bore hole and 1-inch edge bore. Older Florida homes, especially pre-1990 builds in St. Petersburg and the historic districts, often have 1-1/2 inch bores with drive-in latches. The Schlage mounting plate won’t seat flush without a door prep kit, and forcing it cracks the escutcheon over time.

- Lock beeps and flashes red, but won’t program new codes. The memory chip has corrupted, often after a power surge during our summer storm season. A reset sometimes works; usually the board needs replacement.
